Perfect Love…

The guys from the band, for King and Country sent up a prayer, a prayer asking Jesus for the strength to have a life that is proof of His love. Can you imagine what the world would look like if our lives looked like Jesus’s love? Perfect?

I think first we need to look at who Jesus is. About a decade ago Dan Brown’s book, The DaVinci Code described Jesus as a dude married to Mary Magdalene, they had a child together that the church has spent the last 2000 years attempting to cover up. This book was a best seller and those who have a weak historical and Biblical intellect fell for this story. But it is a good question, Jesus, who are you? Jesus asked His disciples, “Who do you think I am?” They all had answers of what they had heard but Peter says in Matthew 16:16, “You are the Messiah, the Son of the living God.”  This is a perfect example of how the world sees Jesus. Many see him as a wise man, a teacher, or a prophet, but a minority believe that he is the Messiah, the Son of a living God.

So what makes Jesus and His love perfect? Death… Jesus died a brutal death not because he wanted to, trust me He didn’t, but because He so loved us that he did it to save us. Lately I have noticed that people try and “scare the Hell” out of you. They tell you stories of Satan and his evil legion of demons and the bondage that Satan holds you in. This is all true and important for a strong believer to start looking at in his or her own life. However, what wins people’s hearts over to the grace and eternal salvation of God? Love does, it is the foundation of any relationship and 1 John 4:18 tells us that Perfect Love drives out fear. Yep Perfect Love drives out fear, it does not say scare Hell out of a person and then give them a big hug. This verse is telling us to share Jesus and His perfect love and the fear of eternal punishment will be cast out. Love is the key; love is the success story here.

We are told without love we are nothing, everything is a loss. 1 Corinthians 13 is the love chapter of our Bible and almost everyone is familiar with verses 4 through 7 but the first three verses are where we are told if I have done everything good in the eyes of man but not have loved I have done nothing, I’m bankrupt.

If I speak with human eloquence and angelic ecstasy but don’t love, I’m nothing but the creaking of a rusty gate. If I speak God’s Word with power, revealing all his mysteries and making everything plain as day, and if I have faith that says to a mountain, “Jump,” and it jumps, but I don’t love, I’m nothing. If I give everything I own to the poor and even go to the stake to be burned as a martyr, but I don’t love, I’ve gotten nowhere. So, no matter what I say, what I believe, and what I do, I’m bankrupt without love. 1 Corinthians 13:1-3

So to cap this all off scaring the Hell out of people is bad. Not finding Jesus and understanding the gift he gave to you, that is no good. Being a good person for the sake of being a good person is nice but futile if done without love. So the only answer to a fulfilling life is to share the Perfect Love of Jesus. It is not enough to just tell your brother or sister about Jesus and what he has done for them, you MUST show them. Love is not an emotion; it is a verb, an action that comes from us.

Dear children, let's not merely say that we love each other; let us show the truth by our actions.
1 John 3:18
